Eagle Eye

The movie casts the always engaging Shia LaBeouf as Jerry Shaw, a hapless nobody caught up
in the cogs of domestic intrigue. He has just returned home to New York after his brother’s
funeral, and stops at an ATM where he discovers his normally empty bank account now contains
$750,000. As anyone would, he withdraws as much as he can fit in his pockets and heads
home, wondering what the hell is going on. He arrives at his dinky apartment to find it too
is no longer empty. It is now full, with all the chemicals and weaponry one might need to
commit a major act of terrorism. His phone rings. A mysterious voice on the other end warns
him he has only seconds to leave his apartment before the FBI arrives to arrest him.
Jerry ignores the warning and in shock, remains rooted to the floor until moments later
when the FBI’s foot soldiers come crashing through his window and drag him off to jail.

Jerry doesn’t stay in jail long, and soon the mysterious voice on the phone is directing
him on an unknown mission of unknown intent. The caller controls not only his cell
connection, but seemingly every other piece of technology on the planet. The voice pairs
him up with a mother named Rachel, who is forced to cooperate lest the voice murder her son.
That Jerry and Rachel are being used and manipulated is never in question; what is, is
whether they’re being used for good or for evil. The movie holds together as long as that
question remains hanging heavily in mid-air, even after we find out who it is that’s
controlling them, via a potentially ludicrous but surprisingly well handled plot twist.
It’s only in the third act that Eagle Eye starts to fall apart, when the battle lines
are drawn and we’re told just exactly who we’re supposed to root for. The little anarchist
inside me had more fun rooting for the other guy.

Though there is a passing attempt in the movie’s script to pose questions about the state
of American politics, Eagle Eye is first and foremost a big, dumb, action thriller. It
belongs smack dab in the middle of summer, why they’ve dropped it in September is something
of a puzzler. Caruso jam packs his movie with big car crashes and things blowing up. He
does a perfect imitation of a Michael Bay action flick, complete with his annoying, usually
pointless, shaky cam technique which more often than not, spoils the effect of something
really cool blowing up. Better filmmakers like Paul Greengrass know how to use violent
camera motion to suck the audience into the action, make them feel as if they’re a part of
what’s going on. Caruso lacks either the instincts or the subtlety to pull that off, and
simply shakes things around for no other reason than to disorient his audience. It’s a minor
annoyance really, most of the movie, what you can see of it, looks fantastic. More
importantly, the action is well paced and, especially for the first two-thirds of the movie,
thrilling. Cheap thrills is the real reason to be here, and Eagle Eye delivers.

The film’s supporting cast exists primarily to complement charismatic presence of Shia
LaBeouf. Billy Bob Thornton is a scene stealer as a no-nonsense FBI agent. Aside from
LaBeouf he’s the most interesting thing in the story, and really should have had a bigger
role in what’s going on. Rosario Dawson is another government investigator, and this is
the movie she turned down Kevin Smith’s Zack and Miri Make a Porno to do. Her choice seemed
to make sense at the time, after all this is a big-budget, Spielberg produced movie.
Getting involved with a Spielberg project is a good thing, isn’t it? Seeing her in the
movie now though, you have to wonder what she was thinking. She turned down a starring
role in an edgy, heavily buzzed comedy to play what amounts to little more than a throwaway,
stiff, empty, government agent part which almost no one will remember. Michelle Monaghan
is similarly forgettable in this film. But then she always is. There’s nothing wrong with
her, it’s just a blank, standard “girl in Hollywood thriller” character.

I robot

I, robot follows fictional Japanese police investigator Haruto Suzuki, a man obsessed
with following rules. When he investigates the mysterious death of a business man staying
in one of Tokyo’s hotels, Haruto stumbles into a much bigger murderous plot. Japan is
exchanging artificially intelligent robots for nuclear weapons from Israel.

Dr. Smith is not a bad fiction writer. His main character Haruto is an interesting man
who, in contrast to the ever-learning and growing robots, has trouble escaping from his
regiment of rules. Along with characters, Dr. Smith creates great action sequences that,
for the most part, are an intense plot filler.

Altogether, I, robot is a global story woven right along the lines of our modern theologies
and technologies (that is as long as your political views don’t distract you). And Dr.
Smith uses his extensive knowledge of current military robots, which should have been the
most excited part. But this is where the unfortunate part begins.

Howard S. Smith seems to be a very intelligent man with a wide variety of interests,
including karate, sci-fi, and robotics. If these seem like things that interest you as
well, you may really enjoy I, robot, as a lot of others have. But in my opinion, I’d
wait for the non-fiction version where Dr. Smith really delves, without distraction,
into the future applications of artificial intelligence.

Pirates of Silicon Valley

to live the live as CEO of a mutli-billion dollar corporation. It must be full of trips
on your private jet sipping smoothies, cruising San Francisco with infamous rock stars,
and bossing around your employees and keeping them on task, because you are on a mission.

For Steve Jobs, that mission is messianic: he was put here on this planet to save us all
from our terrible "stink of Windows laptops" and create beautiful objects that "restore a
sense of childlike wonder to people's lives." If you dare doubt his artistic infallibility,
he will put you in your place, saying "dude, I invented the friggin iPod. Have you heard of
it?"

Of course, this isn't the real Steve Jobs. Although there is plenty of evidence supporting
the real Jobs' egomaniacal sid
Fake Steve Jobs personifies the worst aspects of the Silicon Valley CEO: self-absorbed,
unreliable, and corrupted by money.

In fact, Lyons has created the perfect evil genius in Fake Steve Jobs. He is a man
well-versed in some pop culture version of Zen Buddhism, and he truly believes he can
control people's minds. He is also a man so self-absorbed that no one is allowed to talk
to him (except during a scheduled time published on his iCal account) lest they risk being
fired.

Plus, Fake Steve Jobs surrounds himself with people who help him hone in his
creative skills so he can invent even more friggin awesome iProducts that the
frigtards at Microsoft will most likely steal. Some of the funniest scenes in the
book revolve around his interaction with Oracle CEO Larry Ellison. Both characters
are caught together contemplating the tenets of Zen Buddhism while smoking some weed
or tripping on peyote, and both seem completely lost on what to do with this stock options
scandal thing. verall, Options is a hilarious jab at one of the most revered CEO's in the
tech industry right now. As a novel written in first person with a linear narrative,
Options is able to do what the Fake Steve Jobs blog is unable to do: that is, create a
character that may be jilted by his own sense of self, but has a soul somewhere deep
inside the hard exterior. Whether you are into the world of technology or not, Options
is a great read that will have you laughing out loud.

Surrogates

Surrogates, film starring Bruce Willis, takes us to a world where almost everyone is living their lives through robots called surrogates.
The commercials advertise a world free from danger, because if your surrogate is hurt or incapacitated, nothing happens to the operator.
Just a few repairs and the surrogate is back to its normal, operating self.

The surrogates look ever so slightly like more humanistic versions of the shiny robots that
used to peddle Duracell batteries years ago.

Not everyone is high on using surrogates to do their living though.
Many humans have formed anti-machine tribes.
They have set up reservations in major cities offering machine-free living.
A man who is simply known as The Prophet (Ving Rhames) leads the robot-hating people.

Agent Greer (Bruce Willis) is working a case for the FBI.
Seems a few operators have died the exact moment their surrogate died.
This is unheard of, and causes alarm seeing that surrogates are a top-selling product
worldwide.

Surrogates raises some key questions, but ends up skirting around the tough answers.
In what is no doubt a comparison on people becoming more dependent on technology and
less dependent on themselves, what would happen if all of us could stay at home while
someone else – a robot perhaps – did all our work for us? Would this breed widespread
apathy, agoraphobia, and anxiety? Would we become so dependent on our surrogates, that we’d
forget how to feel and act for ourselves? Is this happening now with the invention of the
Internet and computers? We spend countless hours in front of screens typing in information,
no doubt getting lazier and lazier. Some interesting ideas and thoughts about modern society
are definitely present here.

Wall - e

Wall-E does have all the ingredients for that certain kind of cute Disney movie that we all
expect. Wall-E is a beat up, rusty robot who appears to be the sole survivor of an army of
robots left on the earth to clean it up after the human race had trashed and abandoned it.
He looks like a box with a binocular head and acts like a mini trash compactor.

The beginning of the movie is like an old silent film, where Wall-E exhibits certain human
qualities that endear us to him. He is curious, he collects little bits and pieces that he
finds interesting, he has funny mishaps and triumphs, and he has an odd liking for the
movie version of Hello Dolly. It is while he is watching the musical that we learn that
he is also lonely. Michael Crawford, as Cornelius Hackl, has taught Wall-E how to love
and we can almost feel Wall-E’s longing for his own Irene Malloy.

Of course, he does get his wish, in the shape of an egg-shaped robot who comes to Earth
in search of life. This new robot is Eve, and Wall-E is instantly smitten. I found their
beginning scenes fun to watch as they discover their similarities and overcome their
differences. Watching Wall-E with his beat up angles and Eve with her shiny smooth and
curved lines, reminded me of those funny computer commercials that start out with “Hello,
I’m a Mac,” and “I’m a PC.”

After Wall-E finds a plant and gives it to Eve, she seemingly shuts down while waiting
for her mother ship to pick her up. Wall-E does not understand why she has shut down,
but his devotion to her is touching. Eve’s mother ship does arrive, and Wall-E stows away
for the ride and their adventures begin.

As expected from a Pixar film, the CG animation in Wall-E is good. Wall-E reminded me
of a mechanical version of ET, including his curious attempts at understanding human
objects found in the world. The sound effects from sound designer Ben Burtt were another
highlight of the film, especially the robots’ speech and old computer sounds when Wall-E
boots up. The soundtrack is also good, with an extra bonus of a track by Peter Gabriel
during the credits.

Humans do exist in this futuristic world, but on the surface, the trashing of their home
planet has not taught them any lessons. All of the humans live on space ships.
These ships have been provided for them by the corporation “Buy n’ Large,” which
is representative of the massive consumerism that led to earth’s demise. All of the humans’ needs are met by robotic means. They drink supersized drinks, hover around on gliders, and are constantly in front of TV screens. Their remote control lifestyle has also led the race to obesity.

moving on

sa aking pagkaka-alala, di man man niya sinabing gusto niya ako, wala man syang nabanggit

OO nga pala, we came from one circle of friends, Friendship na nabuo sa pagiging magkaklase.

of course with some other friends... naging ugat ng tuksuhan. kasi nga daw, parang may Something kami..

kaya masasabi kong, we're totally "no-communication". as in di na siya nagtiteks, ni tumawag

he replied, and i commented in return..

hmmm.

now im writting, coz i've learned something and now i am ready and willing to move on...
i've list down my personal steps of MOVING ON..

- do not recall the your bonding moments.

ahahahah..

kwento nating dalawa

paulit ulit ng nasabi
mga pangyayaring ganito
laman ng sari saring awitin
tula at ibat ibang kwento...

kahit na sa pelikula
mula doon hanggang dito

kahit ano pang tula't awitin
sigurado akong tatapusin

Assuming you were tapped by the university president to evaluate the new enrollement system implemented this semester, enumerate your observations/comments and suggest possible areas and ways where improvements can be made. Your observations/suggestions should be properly validated with facts and literatures...(you may start with the diagrams posted in the strategic locations of the university)... (1000words)

Based on my experience during the enrollment period, the enrollment system of the university was very hassle. You may take 2-3 days or more to certify that you are officially enrolled. i can consider it as very costly, not of the fees but to the time being consumed in enrolling. students undergo different transactions, from getting the PRF from the adviser after asking their advisory for what subjects we can take based on the evaluation you have undergo based on the grades you get from last semester the sad part is that i have seen the forms of the enrollment system it was really different as compare with the PRF that we fill up. from the arrangement of information to the spaces and check boxes provided so its really heard for the encoder to input those information. student then fill up the PRF then directly go to the encoder to take a slot of the subject you will be taking, the crucial part is that in filling up the PRF you wouldn't able to know if the slots of that subject code was already taken by other students. It was hassle since you will be again exerting effort to find again another subject code. After encoding you will proceed to the cahier to pay for tuition, then go to the registrar's office to certify that you were officially enrolled. so it was really a long process to go before you can call yourself as a bonafide student of the university.

i suggest a new automated system for enrollment. i would suggest to automate from the advising, filling up PRF to automatically be added to the system that would not need the encoder to input all of those information written on the PRF.

a system having this flow:
- pay the local fees manually.

-since the university's official website has a feature that provides student an access to be able to see their grades of last semesters subjects, the advisers can might have an access to that feature that would directly evaluate the grades of the students of what subjects are they going to get this incoming semester.

-then, the evaluated grades will now reflected to the enrollment system forms that would automatically added the subjects to be taken. And the students now can choose on what the schedule she would adopt.

-after that, the forms will generate report that can be automatically reflected to the cashier, so the student now no need to fill up PRF and the encoder would not need to print those forms with the subject code, description, schedule and the tuition fees. The student can now go directly to the cashier to pay the fees and those subjects reflected to
The automated PRF will going to be reflected to the Registrar's database so after the student to pay the student can now called himself as a bonafide student without going to registrar's office to certify.

With that kind of enrollment system the students can be enrolled for at least half a day,
The university can just add personnel to work as cashiers and encoders. with these the long lines of the student in registrar will be vanished just the lines
in the cashier will remain but at least the hussle was lessen.

We interview Mr. Ariel Roy Reyes, but unfortunately we were not able to talk to him in person because he was so busy. Below are the following questions we have thrown to him and the answers.

Questions:

In system development, how various parts of the system communicate with each other throughout the university? In what way?
Regarding System Development, the best person to ask is our University Programmers, Mr. Fortich and Dr. Mercado.

What are the components involved in the system(s) in the university? (hardware, software, technology, etc.)
• I am not in the right position to discuss the details of the software components used as there are other assigned personnel for such job. However, talking about hardware component and technology used, basically I, assigned as the network administrator, is entrusted to maintain our different servers to run 24/7. Currently, we have our Web Server hosted here in our University in our HP ProLiant ML350 Server. Its an old but stable server set-up here in our Networks Office and has been active since Engr. Val A. Quimno , not yet a dean, was appointed as the Network Administrator. The said server has the following specification:
• Intel Xeon 3.0 GHz, 3.2 GHz, or 3.4 GHz processors (dual processor capability) with 1MB level 2 cache standard. Processors include support for Hyper-Threading and Extended Memory 64 Technology (EM64T)
• Intel® E7520 chipset
• 800-MHz Front Side Bus
• Integrated Dual Channel Ultra320 SCSI Adapter
• Smart Array 641 Controller (standard in Array Models only)
• NC7761 PCI Gigabit NIC (embedded)
• Up to 1 GB of PC2700 DDR SDRAM with Advanced ECC capabilities (Expandable to 8 GB)
• Six expansion slots: one 64-bit/133-MHz PCI-X, two 64-bit/100-MHz PCI-X, one 64-bit/66-MHz PCI-X, one x4 PCI-Express, and one x8 PCI-Express
• New HP Power Regulator for ProLiant delivering server level, policy based power management with industry leading energy efficiency and savings on system power and cooling costs
• Three USB ports: 1 front, 1 internal, 1 rear
• Support for Ultra320 SCSI hard drives (six hot plug or four non-hot plug drives supported standard, model dependent)
• Internalstorage capacity of up to 1.8TB; 2.4TB with optional 2-bay hot plug SCSI drive
• 725W Hot-Plug Power Supply (standard, most models); optional 725W Hot-Pluggable Redundant Power Supply (1+1) available. Non hot plug SCSI models include a 460W non-hot plug power supply.
• Tool-free chassis entry and component access
• Support for ROM based setup utility (RBSU) and redundant ROM
• Systems Insight Manager, SmartStart, and Automatic Server Recovery 2 (ASR-2) included
• Protected by HP Services and a worldwide network of resellers and service providers. Three-year Next Business Day, on-site limited global warranty. Certain restrictions and exclusions apply. Pre-Failure Notification on processors, memory, and SCSI hard drives.
Aside from it, our mail server running under Compaq Proliant ML330 Server, our oldest server, is also hosted here in our Networks Office. Together with other Servers, such as Proxy and Enrollment Servers, both proxy and our enrollment servers are running in a microcomputer/personal computers but with higher specifications to act as servers.

How do these communicate with one another? (Topology, network connectivity, protocols, etc.) – may include data flow/ UML diagrams to better explain.
All Servers are connected in a shared medium grouped as one subnetwork. In general, our network follows the extended star topology which is connected to a DUAL WAN Router that serves as the load balancer between our two Internet Service Providers. All other workstations are grouped into different subnetworks as in star topology branching out from our servers subnetwork as in extended star topology. At present, we are making use of class C IP Address for private IP address assignments. Other workstations IP assignments are configured statically (example: laboratories) while others are Dynamic (example: offices). All workstations are connected via our proxy servers that do some basic filtering/firewall to control users access to the internet aside from router filtering/firewall management. So, whenever any workstation has to connect to the internet, it has to pass through software and hardware based firewall.

What are the processes involved in the communication (each system to other systems)?
As mentioned above, in item 3, all workstations are connected via a proxy server. It means that whenever a workstation is turned on, it requests for an IP address from the proxy server (for dynamically configured IP address) and connect to the network after IP address is acquired. As connection is established, each system can now communicate and share resources within the same subnetwork and to server following the concepts discuss in your Computer Network Class.

How do you go along with the maintenance of the system?
Basically, our servers are expected to be in good condition since it is required to be up 24/7. Daily, during my vacant period, monitoring on the servers are observed that includes checking logs, checking hardware performance such as CPU health, etc. If problems are observed, remedies are then and then applied. Once in a week, regular overall checkup is observed as preventive maintenance to ensure not to experience longer downtime if possible.

Does the system follow a specific standard? Explain Please.
As I was appointed as the Network Administrator, everything was already in place except for some minor changes. Basically, different networking standards was already observed such as cabling standards, TIA/EIA 568A-B, different IEEE standards as discussed in your Computer Networks Subject, etc.

How is the security of the system? Are there any vulnerabilities? Risks? Corresponding mitigation techniques? Access control?
As I have mentioned, we have implemented both software and hardware based filtering/firewall. Basically, Risks or vulnerabilities and different mitigation techniques were considered to increase security in our network. Aside from filtering/firewall, constant monitoring on networks activity also increases the security of the system.

Are there any interference? During what (most) times do these occur? Explain their effects especially with regards to the business of the university?
Major Interferences are normally encountered as an effect of unforeseen and beyond our control events such as black outs, and the like. The said interference would of course affect University’s day-to-day businesses for obviously this will paralyze all our activities that rely on electricity and further this might cause damage on our network devices, etc. that may later be the reason for longer downtime. Problems encountered by our providers such as connection to the National/International Gateway also affect University’s business such as correlating to University’s Business Partners outside and within the country.

Assignment 4

Contrast and discuss the enrolment input form (PRF) with the enrolment university interface.

PRF or Pre-Registration Form is the enrollment input form that is given by the adviser to the student that serves as an evaluation of the students’ current standing and units allowed to enroll. The enrollment form must be filled up with the necessary information needed as part of the enrollment process for the students’ information. Basically, the enrollment input form inquires only the students’ rudimentary attributes such as College, Name, ID Number, Address, Semester, School Year, Course, Class, Section, Sex, Type, Scholarship, Code, Course Title, Course Description, Units, Section, Time, and Room.

The SRIS will automatically show the subject, description, units, section, time and room, once the encoder inputs the subject code that a certain student would like to enroll in. The PRF is indeed a PRE REGISTRATION FORM. The encoder needs the information on the PRF, so that the enrollee will be registered. The PRF also helps the student be informed of his schedule, beforehand, to avoid conflicts. There are some information on the SRIS that I find quite useless, such as the Civil status and the Desired Career. Well, the last one that I mentioned, which is the 'Desired Career' really made me laugh, because there is already the Course field, so I think, that Desired Career stuff is quite useless. hehe

In general, the SRIS is quite fine, it has the necessary information needed and it has the CRUD (Create, Retrieve, Update, Delete) capability. I just hope that the information in the PRF will correctly be encoded in the SRIS. I can't ignore the fact that the encoder may forget to check if the address of that certain student have changed, or other personal details in the PRF.

assignment 2

Relative to your answer in Assignment 1 .... what's your take on the design of the enrollment system?

relative to assignment1.

the university has exerting effort in automating the enrollment system or to make it more easier for the students to be enrolled.from the very first time i enrolled in this university, even in the Tagum Campus, i actually experienced same scenarios.get grades, undergo advising, go to the encoder, pay local fees, pay miscellaneous, and go to registrar to certify that you are officially enrolled. all of those steps were actually a very very long process and it takes a long number of hours just to be enrolled. according to my mother, it was the same process or steps she experience when she enrolled my brother on the USEP Tagum Campus, and as compare to what i experienced in enrolling myself, she said that it was a bit easier than before, for before when number of units were not that many, they actually writes their subjects to be enrolled and they do not have to go for the encoder, for the forms where they write the subjects to be enrolled is given to the registrar and be kept as their record for they do not a automate the system before. so according to her, though it was a manual procedure but compare to our enrollment system now, they have just smaller period of time spent than today's enrollment system.

as what Ive realized, if the old manual enrollment system able the enrollees to spent a lil bit small period of time than now, i think the university can make it easier and hassle free than before. i can say that the university must have a lil more review on the enrollment system, so that they would be able to have a plan of re organizing it to be more beneficial to the students and even to the staff and faculty.

i LOVE you GOODBYE

Wish I could be the one
The one who could give you love
The kind of love you really need
Wish I could say to you
That I'll always stay with you
But baby that's not me
You need someone willing to give their heart and soul to you
Promise you forever, baby that's something I can't do
Oh I could say that I'll be all you need
But that would be a lie
I know I'd only hurt you
I know I'd only make you cry
I'm not the one you're needing
I love you, goodbye

I hope someday you can
Find some way to understand I'm only doing this for you
I don't really wanna go
But deep in my heart I know this is the kindest thing to do
You'll find someone who'll be the one that I could never be
Who'll give you something better
Than the love you'll find with me
Oh I could say that I'll be all you need
But that would be a crime
I know I'd only hurt you
I know I'd only make you cry
I'm not the one you're needing
I love you, goodbye

Leaving someone when you love someone
Is the hardest thing to do
When you love someone as much as I love you

Oh I don't wanna leave you
Baby it tears me up inside
But I'll never be the one you're needing
I love you, goodbye

Baby, its never ganna work out
I love you, goodbye
